FOUR local organisations have been granted a total of over £32,000 Big Lottery funding for community projects ranging from play equipment to a church toilet.

More than 180 projects across the South West will share a total of £3,200,584 National Lottery funding “enabling people to improve their skills, meet new people and strengthen their communities,” said Lottery spokesperson Rebecca Wright.

Roadwater Village Trust and Moorland Hall and recreation ground, Wheddon Cross, have each been awarded £10,000 for play equipment to increase the health and fitness of local children.

The Roadwater group will use the funding for outdoor play equipment for children under seven, while equipment on Wheddon Cross village recreation ground will provide an area for young people to socialise.

St Etheldreda’s Church, West Quantoxhead, will use £6,365 funding for phase two of a church toilet project, installing walls, floors and fittings to improve the building and allow community activities.

A grant of £6,226 has been awarded to the Sampford Brett Acorn Project for a community survey to find the best way of improving the local village hall and its facilities and increasing its value as an important community venue.
