A MINEHEAD mother whose young son was saved from a potentially serious heart disease raised over £800 for research into the condition at a table-top sale and fundraising event at The Avenue Methodist Church Hall in Minehead on Saturday October 7.
This brings Lisa Freegard’s fundraising for Societi, the Foundation for Kawasaki Disease, to £1334.
As reported previously in the Free Press, Lisa’s two-year-old son Reuben suffered a mysterious illness which was eventually diagnosed as Kawasaki Disease – a vascular illness usually affecting children under five which is often mistaken for scarlet fever.
If left untreated it can cause heart and artery problems and Lisa said she was lucky that Reuben saw doctors who recognised the condition.
His quick treatment meant that he now leads a normal life and his grateful family are now fund-raising for the organisation campaigning for more recognition and research into the condition.
