DOVERY Manor Museum in Porlock was one of three local causes selected to benefit from this year’s Co-op Community Fund – and it received £4,327.
Each time members shop at Co-op stores, one per cent of what they spend on selected own-branded products and services goes to help fund local community projects.
Money raised from sales of carrier bags and Co-op scratch cards is also donated to the fund.
The donation will be used to ensure the lighting throughout the museum is as energy efficient as possible. All bulbs will be replaced by LEDs, which will significantly reduce the running costs and enable the collection to be displayed in the best way possible.
It will also provide much needed extra shelving and improved storage facilities.
While the museum is run entirely by volunteers, the preservation and conservation of the collection incurs significant running costs each year so funds such as these are a lifeline for the museum.
