A HAT competition is among the highlights of Bicknoller Flower Show on Saturday (July 28) in the village hall.

There is also a potato challenge as well as a Pimms tent, teas, stalls and an auction of exhibits.

With 33 trophies up for grabs, exhibitors have been slaving in their kitchens and gardens for prizes in classes such as fruit and vegetables, photography, arts and crafts and drinks. Schedules are available in Bicknoller Shop.

Some of the cookery competitors have been following a recipe for chocolate black bean cake while those entering floral arrangements have used their imaginations to interpret ‘Lovely Leaves’ and ‘Small is Beautiful’, among other challenges.

The hat competition has five classes – best girl, best boy, best lady, best man and best ‘one man and his dog’. Entries must be registered by 2.30pm with judging at 2.45pm. Bicknoller Flower Show and Hat Competition opens at 2pm. Admission £1 adults, 25p children. There is free parking, and a grand draw with a £100 first prize.
