THE residents of Shepton Beauchamp have been promised they will soon have less problems with the quality of their water.

Wessex Water has announced that work is underway and should be completed by June.

The company has made the same promise to residents of nearby Barr-ington. In a letter to MP David Laws, Wessex Water chairman Colin Skellett explains: "We have recently completed presentations to Barring-ton and Shepton Beauchamp parish councils, outlining our proposals to reduce the hardness of the water.

"I was pleased to hear from John Delaney, divisional manager for our western region, that the presentations were well received by the local residents.

GOOD NEWS

"The design work for the scheme is currently underway, with completion scheduled for the end of June 2002."

Mr Laws commented by saying: "This good news will not come a moment too soon for the residents of Shepton Beauchamp and the surrounding area.

"The scheme ought to be a major benefit to the residents and means, hopefully, the problems created by the very hard local water will be much reduced."
