CHILDREN at Cutcombe and Timberscombe First Schools have been busy exploring a host of new playground equipment thanks to the efforts of parents, staff and funding partners.

Local county councillor Frances Nicholson started the ball rolling with a donation from her heath and wellbeing fund for the playground revamp.

She also put the schools in touch with the WPA Benevolent Foundation.

The foundation, in turn, was happy to help with a grant and with additional financial support from the Friends of Cutcombe School and the Friends of Timberscombe School the two projects soon became a reality.

Last week, Charlie MacEwan, director of good causes at the WPA Benevolent Foundation, dropped in to both schools to officially open the new playground equipment.

Play facilities now include climbing walls, balance beams and specialist play surfacing, together with large 'Podley' construction sets.

Headteacher Marcus Capel said: "Our school councils planned the layout and the equipment and we then invited suppliers in for the children to look at the options.

"I am really indebted to Frances Nicholson who supported us throughout the project and suggested that we contact the foundation to help us realise the vision.

"I would also like to thank Julian Stainton, chairman of the WPA Benevolent Foundation, for his support."
