NEW season bargains will be on the catwalk at a fashion show in Dulverton which hopes to boost the funds of two charities.

Friends Amy Lodder and Becky Fry have pooled their fundraising talents to stage the event at the town's middle school on October 22.

The 'Off the Peg' collection will feature high street brands, including River Island, Wallis and Marks and Spencer, at up to 50 per cent off.

The event will include a raffle, with prizes donated by local shops and businesses to include meals, vouchers, wine and beauty treatments.

The money raised will be split between the British Red Cross - Becky's choice - helping people in crisis both at home and abroad, and LAM Action, a charity particularly close to Amy's heart.

The organisation provides information and support and raises money for research into a rare disease, Lymphangioleiomyomatosis - LAM for short.

Amy was diagnosed with the condition, which affects one in a million women, generally of child-bearing age, in March last year.

"It mainly affects the lungs where it causes excessive growth of smooth muscle tissue which progressively erodes lung function," she said.

"The sad thing is that there is no cure for it and no proven effective treatment at present, so for many patients their only hope of survival is a risky lung transplant."

Currently there are just 120 women in the UK with LAM.

Amy is hoping that the fashion show will not only raise much needed funds for the charity but also awareness of the disease.

"It will help it to pursue basic research to find the cause, carry out research to see which treatment is best and follow through with treatment trials, and provide better support for patients with LAM and their families," she said.

"We hope as many people as possible will come and support the event to help both these charities - it promises to be a fun evening."

Tickets, priced £7.50 to include a glass of wine and tapas, are available from Bampton Post Office, Dulverton Deli and Dulverton Fruit and Veg.

Doors open at 7pm and the fashion show begins at 8pm.
