MINEHEAD Running Club teamed up with Surfers Against Sewage (SAS) for a quick clean-up of Minehead beach.
Over 20 runners joined local SAS representative Adam Reed to tackle what looked to be a relatively clean beach.
But looks can deceive, and an hour and a half later they returned with heavy loads.
Each year, Minehead Running Club raises money for a charity that has links to the local area. This year, it is supporting Surfers Against Sewage.
The club has also raised over £1,500 through donations and its popular ’Seaview17’, a tough 21-mile coastal run.
SAS is a relatively small marine conservation charity, which relies heavily on the work of volunteers like Adam, all over the UK.
It organises several cleans like this a year, as well as the Big Spring Beach Clean and Autumn Beach Clean series, which run nationally. The charity is also running the Plastic Free Communities campaign. Plastic Free Coastlines – Minehead and West Somerset has recently been set up. Anyone interested in getting involved can find the group on Facebook.
