MINEHEAD's pre-season friendly at home to Weston-super-Mare on Saturday provided a salutary warning as they crashed 8-0 to the Dr Martens League side.

From the opening goal after just two minutes, lively attack swarmed around the home goal and keeper Sam Jordan had a busy afternoon, his many timely saves keeping the scoreline in single figures.

Dave Mehew put the visitors ahead when former Celtic forward Jody Bevan laid the ball back for him to give a rising shot into the roof of the net, giving Jordan no chance.

After ten minutes Weston scored their second goal when Kevin Parker slotted home the rebound from a Danny O'Hagen shot which Jordan had saved at full length.

Minehead were at full stretch to contain the lively visiting attack and it wasn't until 15 minutes had passed that the Blues claimed their first corner.

Weston soon restored their grip on the game, which increasingly became a very one-sided affair with Minehead battling to avoid being overrun.

Jordan had a busy afternoon and made an outstanding save to deny O'Hagan before Minehead responded with Marc Antonelli's speculative shot which had Steve Jones in the Weston goal at full stretch to turn the ball over the bar.

In the 35th minute O'Hagen exposed Minehead's over-worked defence when he broke from the half-way line but shot wide with only Jordan to beat.

Within a minute, he atoned for his miss with Weston's third goal.

Seven minutes into the second half, Weston notched their fourth goal when O'Hagan netted his second and after 58 minutes they made it 5-0 when Bevan opened his account with a well-taken goal following Parker's astute pass.

Bevan netted again after 65 minutes and a minute later completed his hat-trick.

Minehead went close to netting a consolation goal, but it was Weston who had the last word when Parker scored with a powerful shot two minutes from the end.
