OUTSTANDING swims by Kirsty Cottrell and Zoe Steel at the Watchet Dolphins gained them ASA Gold Challenge awards at AquaSplash last week.
The award tests a combination of water skills together with speed and stamina swims to a high standard.
Remarkable speed was also shown by Chris Ashman Adams, Joe Stileman and Kelly McClelland, who took less than two minutes to complete the 100 metre speed swim, and all swimmers finished well within the permitted two and a half minutes.
The 800 metres distance swim involves backstroke, front crawl and breaststroke and has to be completed within 25 minutes, and Kirsty and Zoe demonstrated mastery of all three strokes to become the first to complete the 32 lengths in only 18 minutes with Chris home in 20 minutes.
Much improved Anthony McClelland swam well and Merrissa Kendall ensured her success in this demanding award.
Eight-year-olds Joe Francis and Rebecca Morgan were the youngest swimmers and once again Rebecca impressed with her competence in all three strokes. Determined swims by Daniel Champion, Daniel Phillips, Rosa Lewis and William Heard ensured success well within the time limit.
As a result of their success in the gold awards, Chris Ashman Adams, Kirsty Cottrell, rebecca Morgan and Zoe Steel have achieved all the standards necessary to be awarded an ASA Complete Swimmer award.
