AUSSIE Adam Reid reigned supreme as he swept Kilve to victory in a dramatic run chase at Winscombe on Saturday.
It was with the ball that Reid first starred as he ripped out Winscombe's top three in his first five overs, justifying his captain's decision to bowl. Sylvester claimed the wicket of Pollard and at the end of the 15th over the home side were struggling at 38-4.
Bailey joined Bawden with counter attack in mind and attack he did. He struck both Sylvester and Cobb for sixes as forty runs were added in only seven overs. Cobb wasn't to be denied though and a sharp caught and bowled ended Bailey's assault and left Winscombe on 78-5 at the halfway point of their innings.
With the fast outfield the home batsmen were content to progress in boundaries and both Bawden and Ham dealt almost exclusively in them as they compiled a solid stand.
Their partnership had reached 62 when Bawden lifted Cobb to deep midwicket, where the safe hands of Reid did the rest.
Ham continued to swing lustily as the innings reached its conclusion and brought up his fifty as Winscombe closed on 169-6.
Wheatley and Lloyd began the run chase positively, however Pollard's offspin applied the brakes and then lured both openers into mistakes, leaving Kilve 49-2.
Gill didn't last long, Baker hinted at fireworks before being stumped and Cobb was snaffled at short cover, leaving Kilve floundering at 81-5 after 29 overs.
Reid struck the ball sweetly from the start and in Manchip he found a partner who shared his belief that victory was possible. Both played sensibly, taking ones and twos and hitting the loose ball as they edged Kilve towards their target.
Kilve entered the final seven overs requiring 57 and Reid began to turn on the style as he expertly found the gaps and brought the target down to around one a ball. Each time there looked like being a maiden Reid produced a boundary and with Manchip playing his part Kilve needed 14 from the last two overs.
The first ball of the 44th over saw Manchip hole out ending a superb 75 run partnership. Crucially the batsmen crossed leaving Reid on strike.
Eleven balls remained for Kilve to secure victory but Reid needed only five. He struck Ham over wide mid-on for six, drove for two and then applied the coup de grace with a massive pull for six, claiming a wonderful win for his team and a match-winning half century for himself.
Winscombe: 169-6 (J Ham 54 no, S Bawden 50, A Reid 3-50, D Cobb 2-43).
Kilve: 170-6 (A Reid 56 no, G Manchip 27, I Wheatley 27, S Baker 22, N Pollard 4-32).
