EXMOOR’S young and aspiring chefs will have the chance to display their skills by cooking up the best of local produce in competitions organised by Visit Exmoor on Saturday, November 15.
Both events will take place that day at Minehead’s West Somerset College and will bring together mentors, suppliers, and supporters from across the region to inspire the next generation of culinary talent and showcase the area’s artisan food and drink.
Now in its third year under Visit Exmoor’s stewardship, Exmoor Young Chef has already helped young people take their next steps into hospitality, with past finalists progressing to further training and professional kitchens.
The addition of Aspiring Chef recognises those already working in the industry, giving them a platform to test their skills and creativity in front of judges and industry guests.
This year’s programme is supported by partners including Bidfood and The Sausage Man with further backing from Butlins, Bridgwater and Taunton College, and professional mentor chefs from across the area.
Competitors will design and cook a seasonal Exmoor inspired menu, highlighting local ingredients and sustainable kitchen practices.
Judges will be looking for skills, balanced flavours and presentation.
Max Lawrence, of Visit Exmoor, said: “These competitions are about more than medals. They are a celebration of Exmoor’s producers, a confidence boost for talented young people and an invitation to build rewarding, long-term careers in hospitality.
“The calibre of entries grows each year, and we cannot wait to see what this year’s finalists create.”
Entries are now open.
Young Chef (12–17) candidates can apply via the online form, and businesses are invited to nominate their 18–24 year-old rising stars for Aspiring Chef.
Shortlisted entrants for Young Chef will receive guidance from professional mentors to help prepare.
