IT’S back to business at Withycombe Asparagus where anti-virus measures have been put into place to welcome visitors to the farm shop.

The team cut the first of the season’s asparagus on Monday and, although tours of the fields have been suspended, the shop at Court Place Farm is open from 10am daily.

John Bradley, from the Dunkery Beacon Hotel, has developed a takeaway menu including asparagus while the hotel is closed, and is pictured with Emma Wright who has run the asparagus shop for many years.

Stephen Crossman, who began growing asparagus at Court Place Farm 30 years ago, said: “Our faithful team of harvesters have returned yet again – some new faces too. Many thanks to all those who have offered to help. It’s most heartwarming.

“This will be the 30th anniversary of the first asparagus harvest at Withycombe – we really didn’t expect it to start this way but are determined to bring some of the joy of spring to the tables of our loyal customers.”
