SIR — Re the report on the dismissal of my planning appeal for a chalet extension at Cleeve Park (Free Press February 26), it would have been good if my appeal arguments had been given equal weight in the planning inspector’s report to West Somerset Council.

I believe that the appeal decision is challengeable in the courts, but what ordinary person can afford that route?

The neighbouring Exmoor National Park Authority, not known for its laxity, has a minimum footprint of 90 sq.m for affordable housing/reconstructs. My proposals were not so far removed from this.

The chalets cannot even be termed affordable since their unusual construction renders mortgages very difficult to obtain.

My beautiful chalet is indeed in a lovely location overlooking fields at the back, which is why I want to extend.

The main extension is at the back. I wonder if the herd of cows overlooking would really mind?
