A DISTRAUGHT Minehead family have searched unsuccessfully for over two weeks for the family’s dog which mysteriously disappeared during a walk in woods near Selworthy.
Despite appeals that have brought over 2,000 shares on Facebook and searches by neighbours and friends, there has been no sign of Luna, a year-old bull lurcher, who vanished without trace just after 4pm on July 18 from Little Heddon plantation.
“We are absolutely devastated,” said Kerry Hewett, who with husband Adam and two of their three children, Lily and Harry, searched the area vainly for hours after Luna disappeared.
She said: “The children and I were in the car and Adam was taking Luna and our other lurcher, Trigger, for a final walk. They both rushed into some bushes, presumably after some animal.
“Trigger came back after a couple of minutes but there was absolutely no sign of Luna. Adam stayed searching until midnight but Luna had just vanished.
“People have been wonderful, searching, putting up posters and even flying a drone over the area, but there are absolutely no clues as to what might have happened.”
The family, of Orchard Road, Minehead, have had Luna since she was 11 weeks old. She is black with white patches on her feet and has never previously strayed.
“It’s not knowing what has happened which is the worst part,” Kerry said. “The children are really upset. They live in hope that every day will bring good news.”
