A MYSTERY vandal who has been attacking roadside signs near a West Somerset village appears to have stepped up their actions.

Timberscombe Parish Council clerk Lesley Webb said the signs along the A396 had now been deliberately damaged for the fourth time in as many months.

The road runs from Dunster through Timberscombe and Wheddon Cross to Tiverton, in Devon.

Ms Webb said it was thought the most recent vandalism strike happened after dark on Monday, November 6.

She said: “To pull the signs out of the ground must have required a large vehicle, such as a tractor.

“All of the damage has occurred between the Old Dairy and Knowle Manor.”

Parish councillors have expressed their concern about the vandalism and also praise for Somerset Council at being quick to make good the damage.

However, they were told the parish council could not register the incidents with police as a crime because they were not the owners of the signs, but Somerset Council had been asked to do so.

Ms Webb said anybody who might have information about the vandalism or who might be on the stretch of the road affected and saw such a vehicle at night should contact PCSO Linda Moden by emailing her via this link.
