IT was all-out competition on the cake front at West Somerset College last week when students took part in the Great West Somerset Inter House Bake-Off.
Teachers said “ready, steady, bake” and 29 students from years nine to 12 were off, working in teams to create delicious concoctions and doing their best to win points for their school houses.
The bake-off was held in the college’s sixth form kitchen, and was part of events aimed at giving students the opportunity to enjoy inter house competition in all kinds of activities.
“They all showed such great team work, determination and persistence – they took this competition very seriously,” said Sophie Cooke, year nine achievement leader.
“We had a few teams having to start again after a first cake attempt, but they didn’t let it faze them. We were so impressed with their highly ambitious plans.”
The cakes were tasted and judged by a previous school head of food technology, Pam Stevens, dubbed “Mary Berry the Second”, who gave detailed feedback afterwards, while three teachers watched and offered help and support during the baking.
