A WILLITON woman cancer patient, given three days to live in 2014, will be the guest of honour at a fund-raising event on Saturday (June 17) “for the people who have given me my life back”.

Janet Spratley, 58, hopes to raise at least £2,000 for Musgrove Park Hospital’s Beacon Centre for cancer treatment from a masked ball organised by her daughters at Minehead’s Hobby Horse.

“I just want to show my appreciation for what they have done for me. I am having a lovely life and every day is a bonus,” said Janet, who lives in Townsend, Williton.

Despite having constant treatment at the Beacon Centre for stomach cancer over the last three years, Janet refuses to make any concessions to her condition.

She works over 30 hours a week on the cleaning staff of Croft House and Risden Hosegood solicitors, has a busy social life and spends as much time as possible with her 13 grandchildren.

“I have never been so proud of anyone in my life,” said daughter Heather Spratley, who with sisters Emma Lockyer and Helen Morley, has organised the fund-raising ball.

“Her last three years of cancer treatment have been hell but you never see her without a smile and she never complains or feels sorry for herself.

“She is an amazing example to us all.”
