RAINFALL over Porlock in 2000 was the highest of any decade in the latter half of the 20th century.

David Westcott, of Birchanger Farm, has been recording rainfall for the past 50 years and said that last year's total was the highest since his records began.

The year's total rainfall was 2050.1 millimetres or just over 80 inches, compared to his average of 50 to 55 inches.

October was the wettest month with, 395mm, followed by November at 324.3mm.

December (292.2mm), February (210.8mm) and April (185.2mm) were also among the wetter months while the driest was June (33.2mm).
