LED by headteacher Adam Evans in a wet suit and snorkel, Minehead First School pupils dressed in outfits ranging from pirates, sharks and mermaids, to surfers and lifeboat crew, held a special charity day last Friday in aid of Minehead RNLI.
On a theme of ‘Under the Sea’, pupils were told why the RNLI was such an important charity locally and nationally.
Mr Evans said: "The costumes went well beyond what we thought was possible. The children and parents had some amazing ideas and all got fully into the spirit of the day.
“Many families donated much more than the suggested £1, and for that we are very grateful.
“It’s the first time in my career that I have led an assembly in diving gear!
“The day fitted in perfectly as the children have recently started swimming lessons again in school and they have been learning about water safety.”
Paul Rushforth, chief executive of the West Somerset Academies Trust, said: “We are so proud that many of the volunteers on the lifeboats are heroes who have come through our schools.
“It’s really important that the whole community supports them.”
