TRAFFIC came to a standstill on Minehead's seafront on Tuesday afternoon when the Somerset and Dorset air ambulance landed at a busy junction close to the Beach Hotel. The emergency helicopter was called in after an elderly woman collapsed outside the Jubilee Gardens Café. But it was stood down after the woman was checked by paramedics and taken in a land ambulance to Minehead Hospital's minor injuries unit. Charlie Meade, manager of the Jubilee Gardens Café, said the woman had been sitting outside the café when she started feeling unwell. "She collapsed and her friends were worried about her breathing and possible problems with her heart. "But she had started to come round by the time she went off in the ambulance." The incident, which happened on market day, caused traffic chaos and delays in the area, with vehicles queuing at the approach to junction. Photo: Steve Guscott.
