SIR — I felt that I needed to respond to your report last week regarding the policing of the adult themed weekends, or perhaps lack of some sort of policing. My husband and I have had first-hand experience of seeing and hearing some of the appalling behaviour of these so-called adults - more like loudmouth louts. On more than one occasion we have heard such foul language from not only the men but the women as well. They show no regard or respect for young children let alone adults walking past. On one occasion, when walking down The Avenue and passing a group of young men, one stopped right in front of me and urinated on the pavement. On another occasion, whilst sitting in one of the shelters overlooking the beach, which was busy with families enjoying the sunshine and having fun, a group of men ran onto the beach, stripped off to their underpants and ran into the sea, shortly followed by some more of their friends, who also stripped. One of these took off all his clothes so was completely naked, and he was totally incapable of standing up on his own, so when his friends loosened their grip he just fell to the ground and lay flat on his back. Because he could not stand, they decided to try and drag him across all the stones and rocks on the beach, apparently intending to throw him into the sea to sober him up. We were able to stop a passing police car, and the officers were able to speak to them. We certainly need to have the presence of either more police or community officers to try and keep this shameful behaviour under control before we start to lose the families who come here to enjoy Minehead for what it is - a beautiful, friendly place for a holiday.
