SPRIGHTLY Dene Lodge resident Evelyn Howe celebrated her 105th birthday last Thursday with the help off staff, family and friends.

Mrs Howe was born in 1906 at Higher Bray, Brayford, in Devon and moved to Minehead 52 years ago to be near her sisters, Dorothy and Rose.

She married Edwin later in life when she was in her 70s and has a niece, Doreen, and nephew, Mervyn, as well as a stepdaughter, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Doreen and her husband Mike were among the guests at Mrs Howe's quiet birthday celebration at the nursing home in Alcombe.

During her working life, Mrs Howe lived at home and helped in the family business of farming and butchery, in particular, looking after chickens and honey bees.

She still has an interest in gardening, likes reading and regularly attends Minehead Methodist Church. Photo: Steve Guscott
