SIR — Your paper has alerted to us to the fact that West Somerset Council is increasing the price of parking in its car parks in West Somerset, but no mention has been made about the overnight free parking being changed from 6pm till 8am instead of 10am.

There is a notice on the pay and display machine in Williton giving this information.

This concession has benefitted residents, that is West Somerset Council Tax payers, when shopping in their area and supporting their local shops - as we have been urged to do.

What can we do to persuade the council to abandon this niggardly decision?

They will find they lose far more money if they have to pay extra as more people use their bus passes to shop, a grievance they have expressed but, thank goodness, can do nothing about.
