LOCAL organisations from local schools, hospitals and hospices, to charities and youth groups, could have the chance to brighten up their surroundings by taking part in a £2,000 community landscaping challenge.

RGB Building Supplies, which has branches in Wiveliscombe and South Molton, are calling on local communities to put themselves forward for a chance to win landscaping materials to be used on a project that will make a real difference in their area.

An RGB spokesperson said: “The community landscaping challenge aims to champion organisations that are working hard to improve outdoor spaces for the people they support.

“It could be anything, from creating a sensory garden, revamping a tired courtyard, building raised beds or completing a long-awaited community project.”

Groups can submit their entry by emailing [email protected], giving contact details, the planned project, details the materials to be used and what positive impact the project is expected to have on the environment.

When entries close on August 14, a short-list of finalists will be selected and added to social media, when the public will be invited to vote for a winner.

The winning organisation, which will come from within the company’s trading area, will receive up to £2,000 (including VAT) of landscaping products to help bring their project to life.

Grant Lockett, sales director of parent company IBMG, said: “We know how much difference a well-designed outdoor space can make - from supporting wellbeing to creating places where people can connect.”

The Independent Builders Merchants’ Group (IBMG) owns more than 18 leading builders’ merchants brands throughout the South of England.

Mr Locket added: “This challenge is our way of giving back to the communities we serve and shining a light on the brilliant work happening locally. We can’t wait to see the ideas that come forward.”

Entries close at 23.59pm on August 14.
