With all the money being spent on Minehead seafront, it’s an absolute disgrace that it’s beautiful neighbour, Blue Anchor Bay, is being neglected.
The slipway needs attention - it was fenced off and forgotten. Summer is coming and there’s no access for canoes, small boats etc.
If any members of West Somerset Council and the Environment Agency had visited during the recent good weather, they would have seen all the visitors walking the seafront, beach and frequenting the cafes and the Blue Anchor Hotel.
The 16th century Blue Anchor Hotel was buzzing on Friday evening. All the tables were occupied both inside and out in the garden.

Spring clean beach litter pick being organised by Minehead Town Council The food and the service offered there are excellent. The views of the sun setting are the best in the west.
I think there should be a public meeting held and members of the council, Environment Agency and highways department should be invited to answer questions from residents, visitors, campers, local businesses including those who depend on the B3191 road - for instance, Hoburne, Beeches, Warren Bay etc.
They should be asked if nothing is done soon, then how much is it going to cost to clear the beach and the road when the hotel is destroyed by landslips?
The road would have to close, so how much do they think a new road would cost to build, and where would it run from? Wide loads could not negotiate the Old Cleeve road.
At the moment the local authorities are putting the responsibility back on the owner, Cara Strom. This is not good enough.
I wrote to the Free Press in April 2016 about this same issue and my letter featured a painting by Turner of the bay. If he thought it so beautiful to paint then why is it that the local authorities do not want to spend money to protect it for future generations to enjoy?
