SIR — I don't wish to seem like I am jumping on the anti-Butlin's bandwagon but I have a couple of issues as well.

My first isn't actually with Butlin's but with the coachloads of 'lads' who don't feel the need for a stop at the last service station on the M5 but instead enjoy the al fresco delight of relieving themselves (sometimes with a beer can in the other hand) in the local hedgerow or residential driveway along the A39.

Now the weather is warmer, the Friday drive home again includes a sighting of, to be honest, far more of these tourists than I wish to see.

Goodness knows what impression of our wonderful Somerset this gives to families and foreign tourists.

My second issue is with Butlin's itself. Our lives were blighted last year with the music coming from the centre, it seems to have become worse over the last couple of years.

The bass is particularly annoying and the fact it continues until gone 6am at the weekends means we sometimes have 18 hours of almost continuous noise.

Don't get me wrong, I am a bit of a 'drum n bass' fan myself. I don't want to spoil anyone's fun, but this noise pollutes our days, evenings and nights. Sometimes we have the pleasure of the vocals other times not.

Phone calls and a letter have elicited standard responses but no action as they do not deem it necessary as they conform to statutory requirements.

Apparently we have a 'Summer Party' to look forward to in July - if it is the same screaming banshee giving a 'shout out to Minehead' as last year, forgive me if I pray for rain that weekend.

Are we just unlucky with our location or do other residents have the same issue?

I would be interested to hear if anyone else is totally fed up with this noise pollution, if so, please contact me on [email protected]">[email protected]
