SIX people were treated for smoke inhalation after a tumble-dryer caught fire in the laundry-room of a Wiveliscombe residential home at 1am today.

Crews from Wiveliscombe and Wellington, plus a fire engine and ladder platform from Bridgwater, went to the scene.

Firefighters used breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze with hose reels and safety jets.

A Devon and Somerset fire service spokesman said: “South West ambulance service were called and six people were treated on the scene.

“The laundry room of the building was 100 per cent damaged by heat and smoke. The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental.”
