THE police are appealing for information after an attempted burglary at the home of a vulnerable 80-year-old man in Wheddon Cross between 12.30pm and 1.30pm on Wednesday.

A man called at the house, apparently selling items door-to-door. The householder then found him searching drawers in the bedroom. The man made off when challenged and nothing appears to have been stolen.

House-to-house enquiries and a forensic investigation have been carried out.

The man was white, in his 30s, with dark cropped hair. He wore a black donkey jacket, black trousers and carried a bag over his shoulder.

The police are keen to hear from anyone living locally who has had someone call offering items for sale in the past few days, or who recognises this description.

They should call 101, quoting reference 5219048992.
