THE one-acre garden at Elworthy Cottage is open as part of the National Gardens Scheme Snowdrop Festival on Friday, February 4, from 11am to 4pm.

The garden has more than 350 named varieties of snowdrops, most of which are clearly labelled, as well as areas where the common snowdrop is naturalised.

Many different hellebores give colour to the garden at this time of year as well as varieties of unusual shrubs and trees. Cyclamen coum add interest planted among the snowdrops.

A large variety of birds visit the garden in winter including long tailed tits, nuthatches, siskins, woodpeckers and fieldfares.

Teas will be for sale in aid of Children’s Hospice South West. Depending on the weather, the garden could be wet underfoot, so it is advisable to wear stout shoes or boots.

Elworthy Cottage is in Elworthy village on the B3188 between Watchet and Wiveliscombe. Phone 01984 656427 for details or visit see www.elworthy-cottage.co.uk
