A police helicopter and drone unit were involved in a major search in the Watchet area on Tuesday afternoon when a 15-year-old girl was reported missing.

Police and coastguard units from Watchet and Minehead were alerted and the girl was eventually found on land near the Washford River.

A coastguard spokesman said: “Police and coastguard search teams covered the local coast paths, woods and shoreline, while mobile police patrols attended locations on information supplied by the missing person’s family and friends.

“A decision was made to focus a detailed search inland at Washford, joining the police drone to cover an open area next to the Washford River. One of our team spotted the missing person who was taken into the care of the police.”
