EMERGENCY service crews from six fire stations are tackling a roof fire at Cricketer Farm, Nether Stowey.

The affected area is used as a shop and one fire engine from Nether Stowey, two from Bridgwater and an operational assurance officer went to the scene shortly before midday.

They realised another fire appliance was needed, and this went out from Williton along with an aerial ladder and a fire investigation officer.

As those already on the scene tackled the blaze and tried to protect nearby properties, two more fire appliances were called on, from Burnham-on-Sea and Taunton, as well as a command support unit from Wiveliscombe and additional specialist officers.

By 12.50pm, crews were working on removing roof tiles to reach the fire and the aerial platform ladder was in use followed by roofing ladders for safety at height.

At 1.22pm, it was reported that the fire had been knocked back into the roof space and the crews were finally able to reach previously inaccessible areas.
