New fire engine delivered to Nether Stowey and is immediately needed for emergencyThe man, in his 20s, took little more than a minute to threaten the male cashier, stuff the contents of the till into a bag and run from the store into the busy street.
“Two members of staff were on duty when the man ran in, threatened them with a knife and demanded money,” said store manager Dave Goble. “The whole incident couldn’t have taken more than 90 seconds.
“Thankfully no-one was injured, and there were not a lot of customers at the checkout at the time."
Mr Goble said the attack took place around 6pm and cash from the tills had been collected quite recently so the loss could have been much bigger.
Police said today (Thursday) that a 24-year-old man had been arrested and released while inquiries continue.
