A QUICK-thinking farmer in Cutcombe prevented a fire from spreading from a tractor to a wood shed storing woodchip yesterday afternoon.

The fire is believed to have been accidental, and there was 50 per cent damage to the tractor.

Fortunately, the farmer had moved the tractor from the shed as soon as he realised the vehicle was on fire.

Two fire engines, from Williton and Dulverton, as well as the water carrier from Barnstaple went to the scene at 2.20pm and found the tractor well alight.

Fire crews extinguished the fire using one hose reel jet and a thermal image camera.
