A WATCHET couple were still shocked and sorting out the damage this week after a complex chimney fire in their medieval home on Saturday needed the attendance of eight fire engines.
Robert Dibble, of Kentsford Farm on the edge of Watchet off Washford Hill, realised something was wrong when he got up as normal in the early hours of the morning to check on the Aga and heard what sounded like a chimney fire.
He shut down the flue but the noise was still there and he and his wife Greshna called the fire brigade.
As reported on this website on Saturday, a fire crew from Williton was first of eight to attend the scene on the scene, arriving at 4.42am. The fire spread to three levels and it was five hours before it could finally be damped down.
