POLICE this week appealed to the public to identify a man in connection with a Christmas Day assault in Minehead after two men were found urinating on a parked car.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: “We are keen to speak to him as part of our inquiries into an incident in Holloway Street at about 2.45pm on Christmas Day when two men assaulted another man.”

Police said that the victim was having lunch with his stepfather and other family members in the Queen’s Head pub in Holloway Street when his stepfather looked out of the window and saw two men urinating on his car.

It is alleged that the victim went into the street to challenge the men. After a short discussion, the suspects punched and slapped the victim on the head before leaving the scene. The victim did not require medical treatment for his injuries.

The police spokesman added: “We are keen to trace anyone who was in the area at the time who may have witnessed the incident or captured it on mobile phone footage.

“We would particularly like to trace the man in the image, who we believe was in Holloway Street at the time of the incident and who might have information to help our inquiries.

“We would like the man, or anyone who recognises him, to contact us. It is possible that he is not from West Somerset but was staying in the area during the Christmas break.”

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 and give the call-handler the reference number 5219296291, or speak to Crimestoppers anonymously on 0880 555 111.
