STAFF evacuated Toddy’s Café, in The Parade, Minehead, and three fire engines from Minehead and Williton were called to the scene at lunchtime on Friday.

The drama began at 1.35pm when staff noticed that the fuse box was smoking, and the investigating crews confirmed that it was smouldering.

But they also detected a heat source in a wall of the three-storey building and set to work investigating that further with a thermal imaging camera and small tools to open it up.

They tracked the source of the fire to the wall space on the ground floor of the three-storey building, involving the electricity mains, and had it under control by 2.25pm.

The fire crews partially cut off the supply and Western Power was called to isolate the mains further.

No people were involved or injured.
