A WALKER was airlifted to hospital with a serious leg fracture after she slipped on the rocks of Kilve beach on Sunday (May 6).

The operation to help her involved the coastguard, police, and fire and ambulance services and began when her family called 999.

Watchet Coastguard were quickly on the scene where they identified an open fracture and immobilised her, before transporting her on a stretcher across the rugged terrain to safety.

Somerset Fire and Rescue first responders also assisted until an ambulance arrived.

Her injuries were so serious that she was taken by air ambulance direct to Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
