95 per cent of Somerset families enrolled their children into their first preference primary school this year.

In total 99 per cent of families were able to place a child at one of their top three choices, data from Somerset Council shows.

Of the 5,182 primary school applications received this year:

1st preferences met – 94.54 % (4,899 offers)

2nd preferences met – 3.88%  (201 offers)

3rd preferences met – 0.52%  (27 offers)

Those who applied online for a place will receive an offer email on Monday, April 17. Anyone who applied by post will receive a letter this week.

The council's School Admissions Team is asking parents to contact their allocated schools at this time, saying:

"The Schools Admissions Team is asking families not to contact their children’s allocated school, as schools will contact families to discuss the arrangements shortly."

Families who did not secure a school place at one of their top three preferences can appeal the decision. Details about the appeal process can be found at the Somerset Council website and on the letter or email that families will be receiving this week.
