MINEHEAD suffered their heaviest defeat of the season at Mill Road on Tuesday evening when they were trounced 5-0 by Barnstaple Town.

Dominating the game virtually from start to finish, a slick looking Barum side took the lead after 15 minutes when Robbie Calderhead scored with a fine shot.

Four minutes later Minehead went 2-0 down when Nathan Blaney, making his home debut, scored with a great left foot shot.

Only some fine saves from Lee Ayres and the fact that Barnstaple struck the woodwork on no less than three occasions kept the score to 2-0 at half-time.

Two minutes after the interval the result was put beyond doubt when Robbie Calderhead scored with a header from a corner.

Two minutes later Dave Burr forced the home keeper to make his first real save of the game.

After 56 minutes the score became 4-0 when Robert Gough burst through to net after a defensive mistake, and on the hour substitute Rob Francis made it 5-0 with a fine header.

The final half hour at the match saw no further goals but Barnstaple remained in control with their slick passing game.

The only consolation for the visitors was that the final score was not higher in a match in which they were very much second best.
