NYNEHEAD hot-shot Abbey Ling is still trying to qualify to represent Great Britain at the Olympics in Paris later this year.

She missed out by six clays in reaching the final of an event in Dohr in Qatar last week which would have boosted her chances of making the Games.

She has been competing in an international event in Baku this week but needs to do well at the European Championship in Italy later this month if she is going to qualify for the GB team. The winner of the event automatically qualifies for Paris.

"I always feel confident when I'm shooting but you just have to get it right on the day," she said this week. "Just a few seconds lapse of concentration can cost you dearly."

Abbey has been competing at international level for several years and has enjoyed plenty of success.

Her husband Ed won a bronze medal at Rio in 2016 after competing at the previous two Olympics without achieving a medal.

This has been the highlight of his career and Abbey is determined to become a medalist herself and is putting everything into gaining selection to compete at the Paris event.
