AT the end of the first match of the season in the West Somerset Cricket League, it was the hosts Roadwater who ran out winners of their closely fought match against Winsford.

Choosing to bat first in this 30 over match Winsford openers made a solid start adding 58 before Ivo Mc Farlane was out for 21. Fellow opener Chris Turner batted patiently and took his total onto 36 before he departed with the total on 93 for three.

Later Dan Bowley, who hit 11 not out and Andy Blackmore who made an unbeaten 10, shared in an unbroken seventh wicket partnership of 19 as Winsford ended on 135 for six. Pick of the bowlers was Pete Cole who ended with three for 15.

When Roadwater replied Winsford opening bowler Blackmore claimed both openers before Ross Cornish came to the wicket, where he stayed scoring 63 off 54 balls with five fours and three sixes until he was seventh wicket to fall with the total on 120.

Two further wickets tumbled on 127 before Oliver Cole with 16 not out and Ashley Burr who made 3 just saw the hosts home off the last ball of the match. For the visitors Dan Bowley took 5-35 off seven overs.
