WATCHET Town are involved in the second of three successive home matches when they play Peasedown Miners Welfare in Division One of the Uhlsport Somerset County Football League today (Sat, 3p.m.).

Watchet beat Burnham United 1-0 at home in the League Cup for premier and first division sides last weekend, and club spokesman Nick Sully said: "Obviously we were pleased to win our first home game of the season. It was a tight game and we battled hard.

"It was not pretty to watch but we ground out a result. It went some way to restoring some confidence and it makes players more optimistic. We were also very pleased to keep a clean sheet."

Watchet used three of their substitutes against Burnham because of injuries and it will be interesting to know whether those players affected will be fit today.

Peasedown will provide tough opposition because they have won their opening two league matches and won 4-1 away to Ashton and Backwell United in the cup last weekend.

Watchet have another fixture at the Memorial Ground next Saturday when they play Stockwood Green which is a side they would expect to beat.

Meanwhile, Minehead also return to league action today after their 4-2 victory away to Castle Cary in the League Cup when they play away to Ashcott - the two teams having never played before in a competitive game.

Even though they have not played a league game in a month, Minehead are still lying second in the first division with seven points from their opening three matches.

Ashcott are down in 11th spot with two points from their first three games. However, they also reached the second round of the League Cup last weekend after drawing 2-2 at home against Fry Club and winning a penalty shootout 7-6.

There is plenty of action in the Taunton Saturday, Somerset Sunday and Taunton Youth Leagues over the weekend, plus local matches in the Somerset Women's and Girls Leagues.
