WATCHET Town gained a 1-0 home win over Burnham United yesterday (Sat) in the opening round of the Uhlsport Somerset County League's KO Cup for premier and first division sides.

Aaron Deeks snapped up the only goal of the match - in the 20th minute. It was Watchet's first game of the season at the Memorial Ground. It was a good day for the two West Somerset teams in the competition with Minehead winning 4-2 away to Castle Cary.

Minehead's scorers, all in the first half, were Martyn Phillips, Gary Burns, Mike Graddon and Sam Haste.

If Minehead and Watchet win their second round ties, they are due to meet each other at Watchet in the third round, guaranteeing the home side a bumper crowd.
