Chard 1 Minehead 6

MINE HEAD Ladies scored a convincing 6-1 win away to Chard on Saturday.

They started slowly but once they settled down and started playing the ball around and creating space up front, the goals started to flow.

First on the scoresheet was Denise Lancaster, who picked up a ball from right midfield and finished with a good hard hit.

The second goal soon followed after some fine play in the middle of the pitch opened up the game and a quick ball into the circle was put away by the diving Hannah Sparks.

She got on the scoresheet again after some quick passing from Vicky Perkins to Lancaster set her up to slot the ball across the line.

Having dominated the first half, Minehead got their fourth goal through Lancaster just before the break.

The second half saw Kirstie Speed making good runs from defence to put Minehead on the attack, but although they won several short corners they couldn’t find the net.

Eventually, a good ball in from Georgia Perkins set up Sparks for her hat-trick with a nice deflection past the keeper.

Against the run of play Chard pulled a goal back, but Minehead had the last word when Lancaster finished well to complete her hat-trick and make it 6-1.

The B Bland Instructing player of the match was Kirstie Speed for her good runs and tackling.

Minehead II 4

Winscombe 2

Minehead II pulled off another unexpected result on Saturday when they beat a strong mid-table Winscombe side 4-2.

Winscombe creating several early chances but good defending by Hannah Thompson, Liz Darby and Helena Reynolds and some fine saves from keeper Eleanor Kaye enabled Minehead to hold them off for most of the first half.

But they couldn’t prevent two scrambles in their D giving Winscombe a two-goal lead.

Minehead then pulled a goal back when Mel White made a good midfield run, fed Charlotte Taylor and she passed across goal for Jodie Wallace to score from a tight angle.

In the second half, Minehead came out fighting knowing they could turn the game round, and and after some perfectly-timed passes from Jodie Delbridge and Wendy Daughtrey and runs on the right from Fenella Bennett, she found White in space to cross for Taylor at the far post to deflect into the goal.

Now level at 2-2, Minehead created more chances and Taylor was in the right place to put a rebound past the keeper and give them the lead for the first time.

With only ten minutes to go, Winscombe attacked a tired Minehead side but a fast ball from Delbridge freed Annabel Cottrell to make a run into the D and fire home a power shot to complete the 4-2 win.

Minehead’s player of the match was the hard working Jodie Delbridge.
