It was organised by the Somerset Active Sports Partnership and run by Minehead Tennis Club coach Julie Williams, with members of Minehead Tennis Club out in force to help umpire and score the matches. Each of the three schools entered four teams, and in the initial stages one team from each school played in a round robin, and the highest scorers from the boxes went into the semi-finals.
After some closely-fought matches, Dunster A and Minehead A qualified for the final.
The other competitors and parents watched an entertaining match in with all the children playing some fine tennis, with Dunster A finishing as West Somerset champions for 2017.
Both teams will now play the Tone Area finals in June.
“I would like to congratulate all of the players who took part in the tournament,” said Julie Williams. “Not only was the standard of tennis very high but it was also lovely to see the children’s sportsmanship and the enjoyment that they got out of playing.”
