WIVELISCOMBE have enjoyed a mixed start to their 2025-26 season and won one and lost one of the two league matches in Western Counties (West), in addition to which they have beaten Bridgwater & Albion in the RFU Community Cup, writes Richard Walsh.
Talking about the season to date the Wivey head coach Rob Weaver said: “We had a good win at home against a young and competitive Redruth team. We dominated upfront in the set piece and our backs looked lively, but let them back in a bit in the second half. But that was down to fitness and we closed it out in the end.
“We then went down to Truro where we really should have won but gave away far too many penalties. We dominated up front and created enough chances but got a bonus point out of it, which in the end we were happy to settle with.
“We had four or five changes from the Redruth game so we haven’t been at full strength so far this year;, but I think that’s true with lots of teams and there were a lot of injuries in pre-season with the ground so hard.
Rob went on: “Against Bridgwater we had to make six changes to the side at Truro but it was a better performance and the penalty count was much better, the discipline improved and the fitness was good.
“Next up we have got Penryn at home on Saturday, October 4, which is Past Players Day. They are going well and have got a few new players so we are expecting a full blooded game against them as the games against the Cornish teams always are.”
Rob added: “This year we have got a bit more pace in our back row so we will, hopefully, have our full team out to face them.”
