MINEHEAD Barbarians Under13s were on the road again on Sunday, travelling to South Molton, where the home side only had nine players which meant every one of the visitors large squad was able to be involved in the competitive game.
Minehead got off to an explosive start Oscar Cox scoring an early try, setting the tone for the game. Moments later, Lewis Zeitzen powered through multiple tackles to add another. A clever grubber kick from Owen Sellick set up Oscar for his second, before completing an early hat-trick. With the visitors in control, the coaches mixed the teams to create a greater challenge, and the players adapted brilliantly. Harry Parfitt soon made his mark with a superb run to score. At the opposite end, strong defensive efforts from Harry Blackmore and Jacob Coles kept South Molton at bay. The Minehead players who switched worked hard for South Molton, helping build momentum. Their efforts were rewarded with two well-earned tries. Minehead responded with further scores from Harry Parfitt and Silas Jay Chinnock. After the break, Oscar wasted no time, adding two more tries with trademark pace and determination. Outstanding defensive work continued from Sam Bradshaw, Harley, and Harry Colwill, keeping Minehead’s structure solid. The tries kept coming: Lewis crossed again, Oscar added yet another, and Andrew Ayliffe got on the scoresheet. South Molton fought back with several strong tries of their own, capitalising on determined forward play and their borrowed players’ commitment. Minehead answered as Jack Sewell powered over for a try before South Molton replied twice more. The final word, however, belonged to Andrew Ayliffe, who produced a spectacular finish, weaving past several defenders to score a brilliant try. The match ended 70–30 to Minehead, but both sides showed fantastic spirit, teamwork, and enjoyment throughout. A mention goes to the Minehead players who donned Molton shirts for the day.
