WATCHET Town believe they have a 'good chance' of avoiding relegation from the Premier Division of the Uhlsport Somerset County League now they have been told that only two teams will go down.
With still six matches to play, Watchet boss Avril Cooke believes her side can avoid the drop - but it could go down to the wire.
"We finish the season with games against Keynsham and Clutton and these are games we must win," she said. "I think we can do it especially with the way we played at Timsbury on Easter Monday." Watchet lost 2-1, but Cooke says her team played 'brilliantly.'
"Even Timsbury officials said afterwards we should have won," she said. "We had a perfectly good 'goal' disallowed - the ball definitely crossed the line - and we should have had a penalty. And I thought Riley Willis, who is only 16, was outstanding.
"When you are near the bottom luck seems to be against you. We just need some rub of the green."
Meanwhile, Watchet face one of their toughest games of the season today (Sat) when they play away to leaders Chilcompton Sports who have lost only one of their 21 matches this season and have a four-point lead at the top of the table.
Despite this, Cooke feels Watchet can go there and 'get a result.' She added: "If we play like we did against Timsbury, we are quite capable of getting at least a point.2
Watchet, however, will go into the game without skipper and central defender Evan Harding who is unavailable. Watchet will follow this game with another at home against Timsbury tomorrow week.
Meanwhile, Minehead will be looking to bounce back after their 5-1 loss at Burnham when they will be looking to complete the double over Saltford at home in the first division tomorrow. Minehead won 1-0 at Saltford and will certainly be wanting to put the Burnham result behind them.
Minehead are ninth in the table and Saltford 13th.
