THE new West Somerset Miniature Rifle League season, which teams from Minehead and Williton Rifle Clubs compete, is underway.

The season runs for 18 weeks, with four cups up for grabs as well as the league title.

Three teams from Minehead and two from Williton will shoot over 25 yards and 50 metres on each other’s ranges in the various events.

Unlike many sports, women take part on equal terms with men, and both clubs have juniors - under 21 - in their teams.

The first round saw Minehead A beat Minehead B 382-359, Williton A beat Williton B 382-372 and Minehead C lose 365-400 against a virtual team.

Players scoring 97 or more out of a maximum of 100 were John Grellier and Andy Phillips from Williton and Bill Smyth, Adam Booker and Brian Slade from Minehead.
